journey2mysore

After intesive search I ended up buying tickets directly from the airline. I wanted to fly Malaysian Air for the frequent flyer miles, but they seemed to be all sold out on the dates I could go. Ended up on Singapore Air from LAX to Bangalore, after that I'll figure it out... I am thinking as my flight is coming in pretty late, I'll be spending a night in town, and next day head out to Mysore. I hate arriving to a new place late - you are much more helpless than during daytime. I have gotten a "full tourist treatment" couple years ago in New Dheli, this time I am more prepared to deal with touts and cab drivers. They lied into my face with a smile! Still need to get a visa, will be mailing my passport with application tomorrow. Need to get a hepatitis shot. And there is a whole day to be spent in Singapore... Fun fun fun ;)

What lead to the current events...

Spring of 2000. Santa Monica College. I needed one more unit for the semester, so I took a PE class - yoga. It fit my schedule, you know. Unfortunately, it was a kind of gerriatric yoga - the instructor was afraid that I could pull off my arm by mistake. After the semester I thought of yoga as an exercise for seniors. But then I took another class with a different instructor... She was a practitioner of Yengar style, and after first class I knew that yoga the way I knew was dead. But the class was only meeting twice a week. I wanted MORE. So I carefully wondered upstairs to the "Optimal Enchantment" power yoga studio run by Brian Kest. That was a true revelation. I was sweating like a pig every class, and could not get enough. Half a year later I traveled to India (just sightseeing) and visited Rishikesh, but in winter time there was not much going on. But I still managed to catch a wonderfull case of amoebic dysintery as a souvenier. When back in the US, I went back to power yoga. I have been there ever since. But that "is there something more out there?" keptitching in the back of my mind, and the time to scratch it has come. A glorious 2 month visit to Mysore might realize in the end of December 05. I signed up for Mysore style ashtanga class with Jorgen Christiansen (who is right now in Mysore himself and class is being taught by Andriano). I want to prepare my mind and body for least ammount of shock. T- One Month.
